Southwick-Tolland Regional High School strives to provide a safe, supportive, respectful environment, dedicated to the academic, personal, and cultural evolution of every student. 

 

The Physical Education Program is designed to give all individuals the opportunity to develop social, mental and physical skills.  Components such as sportsmanship, leadership experiences, fundamental skills, an appreciation of fitness and good health practices are stressed.  The Physical Education curriculum is composed of both competitive and recreational activities, which are designed to challenge students of all skill levels.  Team and individual activities are provided with the emphasis on skill development in grades nine and ten. 

 

Class Requirements

Appropriate change of attire such as athletic shorts, T-shirts, sweatshirts/sweatpants, socks and sneakers are required.  To ensure the safety of all students, jewelry is not permitted.  Lockers and/or locks will be provided.  All students should secure their belongings in a locked locker!

Physical Education
Graduation Requirements

In order to satisfy graduation requirements, students must take and pass 4 sections of Physical Education.

Freshmen:  Meet twice per week for one semester.

Sophomores:  Meet three times per week for one semester.

Juniors:  Meet everyday for one semester. 

Seniors:  Physical Education is an elective course for seniors who have satisfied their graduation requirement.  Senior and Juniors have a combined class and meet everyday for one semester.

Band & Chorus:  Meet every other day for one semester.

 Learning Expectations
1.  Students will be expected to read, write and communicate effectively.
2.  Students will be expected to acquire, process, apply and integrate knowledge
     using a variety of resources including technology.
3.  Students will be able to use critical and creative thinking skills to identify, define,  
      analyze and solve problems.
4.   All students are expected to demonstrate personal, educational, social and civic
      responsibility.  Respect for others and other's property is essential.  Disruptive
      and/or disrespect behavior will not be tolerated at any time.
5.   Students are expected to be in class on time, regularly participate and work
      effectively.
6.   Students will be assessed daily on attendance, preparation, conduct, effort,
      personal and social responsibility.  After each unit concludes, students will be
      assessed with a written quiz.  At the conclusion of the semester students will
      complete a written final exam and perform a physical fitness post test.  Freshmen
      who are unprepare for class three times in a term will automatically fail the term.
      Sophomores who are unprepared for class four times in a term will automatically
      fail for the term.  Juniors and Seniors who are unprepared five times in a term will
      automatically fail the term.  Band and Chorus students who are unprepared for
      class four times in a term will automatically fail the term
 
Attendance Policy

Students are expected to attend Physical Education class on a regular basis.  In accordance with the STRHS Attendance Policy, juniors and seniors who are scheduled for Physical Education five times per week and are absent eleven or more days will receive no credit for the course.  Sophomores who are scheduled for Physical Education three times per week and are absent six or more times will receive no credit for the course.  Freshmen who are scheduled for Physical Education twice a week and are absent five or more times will receive no credit for the course.  Students who have an excused absence will be allowed to make up the class at their teachers discretion.  It is the responsibility of the student to make arrangements with their teacher.
